Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
